Me and My Ritual Practice of Qi Gong

For years I have been doing the Qi Gong 18 Style Ritual Practice. I seldom skip a day because I know how powerful and centering it is. The practice has been, for me, a time of Meditation, Contemplation and Inspiration. This is why I’m telling you about my personal experience this morning.

The weather in Arizona this time of year is Beautiful — 57 degrees and clear skies when I did my Ritual Practice this morning. As everyday, I was enjoying being with my Qi Gong. However, as I moved through the 18 Movements, I found myself thinking about what was going on in my day to day life and feeling stressed. It was as though these thoughts were running like a video in my mind. Then it occurred to me… STOP thinking about this…Think about what YOU WANT!  I realized that I was polluting this valuable moment with unproductive, non-serving and unhealthy thoughts. I needed to  STOP!!! Focus on the GOOD. If I must think about something, focus on what I want, not what is going on in my life that is not serving me.

This for me was an Aha Moment. The practice opened me up to an Inspiration, a guide, an awareness of what I need to do to fulfill my wishes, dreams and desires. My thoughts shifted to what I truly desire. The flow of my practice slipped back into being a Meditation. I am So Grateful for what Qi Gong Gives me. This is why I keep practicing.

If you are not currently practicing Qi Gong 18 Style Ritual, think about committing to it for 90 days and see what changes in your Life. What improves for you.

Breath and your Qi Gong Ritual Practice.

Buddha watching over my Qi Gong Ritual Practice

Qi Gong practitioner all know that you breath into the Dan Tien (where Essence and Spirit are stored), however as I do the Ritual I become involved in the movement and allow my focus to drift away from the breath. This is especially true with the arms over the head movements. The natural instinct for me is to breath into the top of the lungs allowing them to fill and not breath into the Dan Tien. I at times need to remind myself that the breath goes to the Dan Tien. Breathing in this manor, not into the Dan Tien, diminishes the benefit of Qi Gong, reduces the circulation of Qi in the body.

To achieve maximum results when you perform your Qi Gong Ritual keep your focus on the breath, consciously draw the breath to the Dan Tien.

Qi Gong and Breathing Techniques

Qi Gong and Breathing

All Qi gong rituals, active or static, utilize breathing techniques. A definition of Qi Gong is: “to manipulate, manage or move the Qi”.  Qi is moved with the Breath and by the Breath. To have a successful Qi Gong practice, you must master breathing techniques and exercises.

The “Micro-Cosmic Orbit” Breathing TECHNIQUEs

Most forms of Qi Gong, including Qi Gong 18 Style, use a breathing technique referred to as the “Micro-Cosmic Orbit”.  This technique is performed by directing or following the breath in a specific pattern – an ‘orbit’ around the body.

When inhaling, you visualize the breath starting at the perineum and moving up the spine over the top of the head into your nostrils. The exhale moves the breath out of the nostrils, down the midline of your body to the Dan Tien (Qi reservoir in the lower abdomen) returning the breath to the perineum.

This path of the breath follows the Du Mai (Governing Vessel) meridian up the back and completes the orbit by following the Ren Mai (Conception Vessel) meridian down the front of your body. These meridians are external and are part of the meridian group referred to as the Eight Extra.

Practicing the “Micro-Cosmic Orbit” by itself can be considered a form of Qi Gong. However, as a specific breathing technique used with an active form such as Qi Gong 18 Style,  the ritual practitioner experiences focus, power, clarity and calm.

Develop the habit of breathing the “Micro Cosmic Orbit” while performing Qi Gong rituals. Your Qi Gong experience will be deeper and longer lasting as you go through your day to day activities. You will be more centered. Your ability to respond rather than react will be enhanced You will Have A Good Day!
