Qi Gong Breath

Qi Gong Breath when performing the Ritual is often overlooked. Qi Gong is defined as Body, Mind, and Spirit. Qi Gong can also be defined as Movement with the Breath and Focus. Your Breath is the source of Qi. Breathing draws Qi into your body to be distributed by the blood to all of the tissues in your body. The Breath supplies us with Qi.

Movement is mostly a conscious activity. We direct it with thought. Breath is an unconscious activity. It happens without our conscious thought. As a Qi Gong practitioner, you must be aware of the breath while your body moves during the ritual. As a Teacher and a Practitioner, occasionally I find the proper breath pattern is not being done to attain the maximum benefit of the movement.

Be Aware of Your Breath

When you are performing the Qi Gong 18 Style Ritual, always accompany each movement with the correct breathing pattern.

(a) Always Inhale the Arms Up, Exhale the Arms Down.

(b) Always Inhale the Arms Open, Exhale the Arms Closed.

(c) Always Inhale to the Left, Exhale to the Right when bending or twisting to the side.

(d) Always Exhale when moving the palms or fists Out, Always Inhale when moving the palms or fists In.

The patterns are simple. Some say it is “natural breathing.” It is simple, so don’t complicate it, simply be aware of your breath.

The MOST important aspect of the Breathing Patterns for Qi Gong 18 Style Ritual is

moving and breathing simultaneously. The movement and the breath are initiated together and are completed together. Begin breathing when you begin to move. End the breath when the movement ends. The movement moves the breath, the breath moves the movement. This simultaneous action will maximize the effectiveness of your practice. Your benefits will be sooner and greater by focusing on the coordination of Breath and Movement.

Be aware of your breath as you practice Qi Gong 18 Style. Maximize your Benefit.
